      <image:caption>Senior Consultant Linda Croyle’s goal as a consultant, trainer, and professional speaker, is to share transformational communication practices to promote team and personal development, improve diversity &amp; equity outcomes, and foster workplace wellness. With a Master’s Degree in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard and a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education from St. Lawrence University, as well as years of study on the neuro-emotional role of the brain, Linda is especially well versed in the connectedness between our thoughts and beliefs and how they impact our everyday interactions and ultimately direct our lives.  Linda has over 30 years of professional experience, 20 of those years spent at UCSB as a Senior Administrator in Housing. Her mission has always been to learn and grow to become the best version of herself, and to help others do the same.  Linda also serves as adjunct faculty for Santa Barbara City College's School of Extended Learning. Her duties include consulting, curriculum development, teaching a wide range of professional skills to the greater Santa Barbara community, including those currently incarcerated at the Santa Barbara County Jail, as well as developing unique programs and commissioned trainings for groups, teams, and organizations.  Linda has her own consulting practice - Croyle Consulting - which brings a values-based approach to organizational management and development. She is a former founding partner of The Dialogue Consultants, a diversity and inclusion consulting group. She has also served as faculty for the Just Communities’ Institute for Educational Equity, training public school educators on critical skills for building inclusive environments.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Senior Consultant Dr. Katya Armistead—a student-focused administrator with 30 years of experience—currently serves as the Assistant Vice Chancellor and Dean of Student Life (AVC/DOS) at UC Santa Barbara. In her campus leadership role, Katya demonstrates broad concern for issues that pertain to the quality of student life of UCSB students (especially outside of the classroom); facilitates problem solving and crisis response; promotes inclusion in the campus community and equitable access to UCSB learning environment by students of all identities; and liaises between students and University administration by listening broadly to student input and representing student perspectives and interests. She is a member of the Vice Chancellor's Student Affairs Executive Leadership Team and the Chancellor's Senior Officers group, as well as a member of the UC Systemwide AVC/DOS workgroup. And as an executive manager in the Division of Student Affairs, Katya's portfolio includes Campus Advocacy Resources and Education (CARE), Career Services, the Dean of Students Office, First Year and Graduate Student Initiatives, the MultiCultural Center, the Office of Student Life, Orientation Programs and Parent Services, the Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity, Veteran and Military Services, and Women, Gender and Sexual Equity. In addition, she is primarily responsible for campus protests and demonstrations, campus crisis response, campus compliance in areas of policy related to sexual violence response, voter registration efforts, campus-based elections compliance, and federal and state mandates impacting student life, including safety issues in the neighboring Isla Vista community. Katya completed her master's degree in college counseling and student development at Azusa Pacific University. And, received her doctorate (Ed.D.) in educational leadership from a joint program between UCSB and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. She is a trained facilitator for The Leadership Challenge Workshop® (a research-based, behavioral leadership development framework), teaches a leadership course in the UCSB Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, and specializes in areas f campus climate and diversity. Dr. Katya Armistead lives with her partner in Santa Barbara where she is an active volunteer and board member in non-profit organizations. Her two sons have gone on to pursue degrees at the CSU and UC. When she isn't on campus, she enjoys early-morning walks, reading, and dining out.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Senior Consultant Dr. Phil Hunsberger is co-owner and Senior Facilitator for Educational Equity Consultants (EEC). From 1971 until 1998, Dr. Hunsberger served as a teacher, principal, and central office administrator in the Sterling Unit #5 School District. In 1998, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) selected Dr. Hunsberger for reform work throughout the State. His last educational assignment from 1999 - 2005 with the ISBE was the Executive Director of the Metro East Consortium for Child Advocacy (MECCA), a partnership of six Illinois School Districts that included East St. Louis, Cahokia, Madison, Dupo, Venice and Brooklyn.  MECCA provided professional development for these districts in the areas of literacy, school leadership, mentoring, and social justice advocacy for teaching and leading.  Dr. Hunsberger also served as the Coordinator of the Illinois State Board of Education RESPRO Region V grant.  This initiative provided professional development for schools not reaching adequately yearly progress (AYP) in a sixteen county areas of southern Illinois.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Education and his Master in Science in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University.  His doctorate in Educational Leadership from National-Louis University, Wheaton Campus.  In 1994, the National Association of Elementary School Principals selected Phil as the National Distinguished Principal from Illinois.  He has served as the Director of the International Network of Principals’ Centers and has presented for school districts and leadership centers throughout the country. For the past fifteen years, Dr. Hunsberger through EEC. has chased his passion regarding social justice advocacy and anti-racist work. Most recently, he authored: Becoming a Social Justice Leader; Using Head, Heart, and Hands to Dismantle Oppression, Routledge Press, 2016.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Senior Consultant Dr. Carmel Saad is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Westmont College in Santa Barbara. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from UC Santa Barbara. She earned her Ph.D. in social and personality psychology at UC Davis. Her work focuses on cultural competence, diversity, multicultural awareness, and bias. Carmel aims to understand how to disrupt the impact of bias on behavior toward others to reduce disparities in real-world outcomes. She has adopted an evidence-based framework to help those in academic, law enforcement, healthcare, for-profit and nonprofit organizational contexts combat the effects of prejudice in their work.  Dr. Saad founded Carmel Saad Consulting in 2015, and through this private consulting firm, she and her team have helped organizations across a wide variety of sectors address racial disparities in outcomes in their fields. Her team facilitates sessions to help leaders and organizations better support underrepresented community members and mitigate the impact of bias in constructive ways. She works to understand organizations’ specific needs before training them on how to address these needs in an evidence-based way.  Throughout the design and implementation of their trainings, Dr. Saad and her team rely heavily on prejudice and discrimination research to demonstrate how biases can have serious consequences on behavior at an individual level and can contribute to larger disparities at a systemic level. They use a multifaceted prejudice attenuation and prevention program that frames the idea of prejudice as a habit that can be broken (Devine et al., 2012). They expand awareness of prejudice and its outcomes, focusing on how certain biases can lead individuals to unwittingly perpetuate discrimination. They equip participants with evidence-based strategies to disrupt the effects of bias on behavior and mitigate its impact on real-world outcomes. They give participants an opportunity to discuss and practice the strategies within the context of their own roles within their organizations. Moreover, Dr. Saad and her team often empirically assess the effectiveness of their anti-bias training programs.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Senior Consultant Always concerned with questions of race, gender and the intersectionality of identity and oppression, Shanelle Henry has spent much of the last twenty years working on issues of diversity, inclusion and social justice, both in formal and informal educational environments. Shanelle currently serves as the Director of Equity and Inclusion at Greens Farms Academy, a Pre-K through grade 12 independent school located in Westport, Connecticut. In her role, Shanelle works with students, faculty, administrators, parents and Trustees to provide strategic vision and leadership in the areas of equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout the school community. In addition, Shanelle serves as the Co-Chair of the Commission on Diversity for the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), and is also an active member of TEAM Westport, the official diversity committee of the Town of Westport. A native of Brooklyn, NY, both her personal and professional experiences have primed Shanelle for the tough yet rewarding work of engaging youth and adults in challenging DEI conversations about concepts of race, privilege, sexuality, gender identity and expression, anti-bias education, culturally-responsive teaching, microaggressions, implicit and unconscious bias, and more. Popular for her congenial and engaging presentation style, Shanelle has designed and facilitated numerous classes, workshops and training on leadership, diversity, and social justice for corporations, non-profits, community and government agencies, schools, colleges, and universities. Shanelle summarizes her approach to life, work and passion for diversity and community by quoting Maya Angelou: “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” An alumna of Smith College and the University of Massachusetts Amherst Social Justice Education (SJE) graduate program, Shanelle is uniquely poised to engage difficult dialogues surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion in our society today. Together with her long-time friend and SJE colleague, Dr. Khyati Joshi, Shanelle founded the Institute for Teaching Diversity and Social Justice – a summer professional development conference for educators interested in building more inclusive and affirming classrooms by increasing their capacity to implement anti-bias curriculum and develop strategies and skills to effectively navigate diversity issues in independent schools.  Additionally, Shanelle is published in the revised edition of the book Reel Diversity, by Brian C. Johnson (Peter Lang publishing, 2015), an instructional resource guide for educators seeking to integrate film into their curriculum content about diversity and social justice, and the examination of how film enforces and reinforces stereotypes and cultural values. Shanelle was also a contributing author of, "The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow, A Century of Segregation" (PBS) – a discussion guide for educators with lesson plans and activities about the Jim Crow era. From the early to late 1990’s, as the Program Director for The National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ), Jarrod developed and led a comprehensive, multi-issue social justice leadership institute for youth that became a national model. He also led an initiative to dismantle racism in the St. Louis Region. In 2001, Jarrod was invited to California to launch a new NCCJ office to serve the communities of the Central Coast. In 2007, this organization became Just Communities. Jarrod holds a Master’s Degree in Organization Development from American University and the NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Science.  He is a past Associate of the A.K. Rice Institute for the Study of Social Systems, a past board member of the Grex Center for the Study of Authority Dynamics of Social Systems, and a past Commissioner for the Santa Barbara County Human Relations Commission. He served as an Adjunct Faculty Member for Antioch University’s undergraduate and Master’s in Education programs and currently serves as a Faculty member for Fielding Graduate University’s Master’s in Organization Development and Leadership program. After retiring, she transitioned to teaching at New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU), Facundo Valdez School of Social Work as Assistant Professor.  Dr. Munguía taught human diversity and multicultural theory, clinical practice, and qualitative research in the Bilingual Bicultural Program at NMHU.  She is currently engaged with multiple community based groups in Ventura County, and serves as consultant to the Santa Barbara Department of Behavioral Wellness. Dr. Munguía earned her GED from Houston Community College, B.A. in Psychology from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, a Master of Social Work from the George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis, completed a Post-MSW Clinical Social Work Fellowship and a 2-year Relationship &amp; Family Therapy Program at the Karl Menninger School of Psychiatry in Topeka, Kansas. She earned her PhD at the University of New Mexico in the Department of American Studies.  She remains committed to ongoing interdisciplinary studies and community engagement.  In December of 2018, Dr. Munguía relocated from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Santa California to be close to her only child and grandchildren.</image:caption>

At a young age, Tony saw the value in quality education and was interested in balancing the scales of opportunity and justice and eradicating the roadblocks to equity and equality. He has made a career in helping people and communities utilize education, push past ignorance and open their minds and hearts to a higher level of learning. Tony served as Director of Southern Illinois University East St. Louis Charter High School for 11 years. During his tenure, the charter school was recognized as a Distinguished School by the Illinois State Charter School Board. In addition to his current full time position, Tony is adjunct professor at Webster University, where he teaches in the Media Communications department. He has served as faculty and trainer for numerous Dismantling Racism Institutes of the National Conference for Community and Justice and has trained for the Anti-Defamation League’s, A World of Difference, and for the Coro Midwestern Leadership Center.  In 1991, Tony received a United States Court Appointment to the Educational Monitoring Advisory Committee, St. Louis Desegregation Program. Tony has presented at the International Principals’ Conference in London, England and Toronto, Canada. He has also spoken and/or conducted training for more than 500 agencies, companies, organizations and school districts, including ones in South Africa and Ghana.  In addition, Tony has done mission work in Central American, El Salvador. Tony holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Morehouse College and a Master’s Degree from Washington University.  He is a 2003 graduate of the Harvard University Urban Principals’ Institute and a 2007 graduate of the National School Leaders Network Facilitator’s training at Wellesley College. Tony is a distinguished member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He has received numerous awards and accolades. Most recently, Tony co-authored the book, Becoming a Social Justice Leader: Using Head, Heart, and Hands to Dismantle Oppression. On February 20, 2017, Tony was featured in the National PBS special, “The Talk: Race in America.” Tony is also a member of Diverse City Church. René served as Vice President for the California Conference for Equality and Justice for 12 years. In this capacity he led training initiatives in diversity, equity and inclusion for police departments, municipal employees, educators, foundations, private businesses and non-profits.  René is an expert facilitator and planner who is able to connect training outcomes to overall organizational development and effectiveness. As the founding Director for Building Healthy Communities, Long Beach, a place-based effort to raise life-expectancies in Long Beach’s poorest neighborhoods René personally took the lead to map local assets, convene multi-sectoral workgroups,  build community capacity and establish the governance structure that is today known as Long Beach Forward, a progressive grassroots advocacy organization. She is a proud first generation student who earned her BA in Communication Studies, with a minor in Spanish from University of San Diego. She then earned her MA and PhD in Communication at UC Santa Barbara. Following completion of her PhD, she completed a brief Postdoctoral Fellowship with UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine and the Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation focused on patient education, advocacy and disparities reduction in management of chronic kidney disease. Her research has focused on improving provider-patient interactions to improve patient care, especially for patient groups with health disparities. She conducts projects in Population Health, Behavioral Health, Diabetes, and Pediatrics. Dr. Pines has extensive experience in both qualitative and quantitative data analysis, as evidenced by her more than 20 peer reviewed, empirical publications in academic journals. She has conducted virtual and in-person trainings with multidisciplinary teams to improve interpersonal interactions, including reducing bias and focusing on person-centered communication for more than 5 years. Dr. Pines lives in Santa Barbara with her partner and is active in her community. She has been a dance teacher and professional ballet and modern dancer for more than ten years. Her love for dance and her community is evidenced by her non-profit board memberships that encourage arts education for disadvantaged youth.</image:caption>
